school testingIn Montana this week, the U.S. Department of Education has granted permission for the state to use replacement field tests in their education system. This gives Montana the first waiver for flexibility in testing students. Field tests are being developed by Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) which is one of the state’s coalitions for developing exams which will align to the common core.

Montana plans to give students the SBAC field testing in mainly two subjects to include math as well as English. The testing is scheduled to take place for students in grades three through eight as well as grade eleven. At this time, Montana will still have students take the state’s present science testing.

The Educational Department on the Federal level is allowing schools to apply for double-testing flexibility. This is offered to states as a way to allow testing to be more flexible as to not overwhelm the students in taking too many test assessments.

How do you feel about Montana’s testing in the educational system? Does your child seem overwhelmed at times with the current testing system? We would love to hear your personal opinions here on Big Sky Blog! Please leave comments below.
