The Great Northern once ran through Montana but now has been converted to a cabin lodge which is located in Montana. Tourists view the power the locomotive once provided on the outside, but they gain a different view when looking inside.
Mr. Tom Lambrecht was working for the BNSF Railway and realized the locomotive could bring many to see the potential for locomotive restorations. And, what better place to complete the project for tourists to view, but in Montana. Lambrecht made a dream come to pass and spent much time on bringing the Great Northern back to its second life.
The Great Northern went through stages of transformation before coming to reside at Izaak Walton Inn. The F45 came to be admired in the Big Sky color of blue, which brings additional character to the story. The car body was restored, electrical components added, plumbing put into place, and the locomotive was insulated. After much intensive labor, the rewards have paid off in Big Sky country.
Visitors love to see and stay in the converted locomotive cabin lodge within the state of Montana. The train engine has been in the Montana Sweet Grass Hills since 2009. It stands on track to bring back the memories of what it once provided to the area.
